Our Role
On a major dam construction project in a remote island region, our team was appointed under a Contractor’s All Risks policy following a sudden flash flood that overtopped the cofferdam and inundated the main works.
We mobilised to site, interviewed project personnel, and reviewed hydrology, weather records and design documentation. By comparing recorded river levels with the design intent and the policy’s safety-measures and cofferdam-overtopping endorsements, we established that the event exceeded the project’s enhanced flood defences.
We then separated reinstatement of permanent works from debris-removal activities, applied prudent accuracy allowances to measured quantities, and assessed the contractor’s plant and equipment under the relevant extension, verifying declarations and removing items outside the agreed schedule.
Our balanced scenarios provided the insurer with clear options and supported a negotiated settlement that aligned with the policy and the facts on the ground. The result: timely reinstatement, improved risk controls upstream, and a satisfied stakeholder group showcasing our capability to resolve complex losses with technical rigour and practical judgement.
